Idris Elba boards HIJACK for Apple TV+


Apple TV+ today announced “Hijack,” a new seven-part thriller created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, starring SAG winning and Emmy Award nominated Idris Elba (“Luther”).

Told in real time, “Hijack” follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over 7 hours, and authorities on the ground scramble for answers. Elba stars as ‘Sam Nelson,’ an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers — but, his high-risk strategy could be his undoing.

The series is written by George Kay (“Lupin,” “Criminal”) and will be directed by Jim Field Smith (“Criminal,” “The Wrong Mans”), who will both also serve as executive producers alongside Elba, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta and Kris Thykier. “Hijack” will be produced by 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions in association with Green Door.

Netflix has today announced a revolutionary multi-national original drama series, CRIMINAL. A police procedural with a unique premise, it takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite. This stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama will focus on the intense mental conflict between the police detectives and the suspect in question.

The debut season comprises of 12 unique stories set in 4 different countries: France, Spain, Germany and the UK. These episodes will be made in local language, written and directed by talent from their respective countries. All 12 episodes will film on a purpose built set at Netflix’s production hub at Ciudad de la Tele in Madrid.

CRIMINAL’s creators and executive producers are writer George Kay (Killing Eve, The Hour) and director Jim Field Smith (Endeavour, The Wrong Mans). The show is an Idiotlamp production for Netflix. 

The French creative team includes Frederic Mermoud (Writer, Director & Co Executive Producer) (Spiral, The Returned), Antonin Martin-Hilbert (Writer) (Nina, Black Spot) & Mathieu Missoffe (writer) (Black Spot, Profilage)
