“Stag”, the dark comedy thriller commissioned by BBC Two about a truly horrific stag weekend, starts filming today on location in Scotland.

The cast announced today, joining stars Jim Howick (Peep Show, Horrible Histories) and Stephen Campbell Moore (The Wrong Mans, Our Zoo), includes JJ Feild (The Musketeers), Reece Shearsmith (Inside No 9), Rufus Jones (W1A, Hunderby), James Cosmo (Game of Thrones), Tim Key (Inside No 9, Alan Partridge), Amit Shah (Silent Witness, Jekyll & Hyde) and Sharon Rooney (My Mad Fat Diary). International guest stars include Denmark’s Pilou Asbaek (Borgen, A Hijacking) and Australian Christiaan Van Vuuren (ABC’s Soul Mates).

In this three-parter, a meek school teacher (Jim Howick) joins his future brother-in-law (Stephen Campbell Moore) and several obnoxious friends on a deer-stalking expedition in the Scottish highlands. As the hunting party realises they themselves are the prey, sordid secrets begin to emerge and old friendships are tested to the limit in a ruthless battle for survival.

“Stag” is created and written by BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Jim Field Smith (The Wrong Mans, Episodes) and George Kay (The Tunnel, Our Zoo, The Hour), and produced and directed by Jim Field Smith. Myfanwy Moore is the Executive Producer and it is a BBC In House Comedy production in association with Idiotlamp.

Jim Field Smith, Producer, Director and Co-writer of Stag said: “I can’t believe this fantastic roster of talent is joining us for seven weeks of hell in the Highlands, and can only assume they haven’t read the scripts properly”

Myfanwy Moore, Controller of UK Comedy Production at BBC said: “Jim and George have created a rip roaring comedy thriller – and we’re delighted that such a fabulous cast have agreed to join in on what will no doubt be a terrifyingly funny ride.”
